Of Historical Interest

These pages provide an historical perspective of the art of practicing safe science.  Some pages address the occupational and environmental health and safety issues that, in time, led to the call for federal guidelines and regulations for laboratories handling hazardous materials.  Other pages explore records of early recognition of laboratory hazards and review the methods that evolved to control exposures to laboratory workers and the environment.  And some pages examine the purpose and logical basis for many of the rules and guidelines that are in place today for protecting the health and safety of laboratory workers and the public health.  We believe this information is interesting and important to know.
